In class when we started learning about Ellis Island and Angel Island I didn't know much so I learned a lot about the islands and what was going on in that time. One thing that really grossed me out but intrigued me about the Islands was the whole medical process. In class we watched a video and it had talked about all the medical things they had to do. It talked about the chalk markings which was interesting. Also in class we talked about the Chinese being at a disadvantage because they were different which I did not know. On a website I looked to see what amount of people that came into the US in 2000 to 2010 were immigrants and non immigrants. This is what I learned. In 2000 there was 282.16 million people in the US in all. In 2010 there was 309.33 million people in the US in all. So there was 27.17 million people that came into the US from 2000 to 2010. In 2010 data shows that 13.1 million immigrants (legal and illegal) have arrived in the US since 2000. So out of the 27.17 million people that came into the US from 2000 to 2010. 13.1 million of those people were immigrants (legal and illegal) and 14.07 of those people were born in the US. In the end I have learned a lot about the islands that I didn't know before and I am glad I am more educated about them now.
