A fandom is a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of empathy with others who share common interests. The reason Lucy and I chose to research this subculture is because I am in a fandom and have lots of knowledge and experience with it. Being in a fandom is not just a subculture, it's a lifestyle. In a typical fangirl/fanboy's life, they dedicate their life to their idol(s). Most of the time this is done on Twitter, a famous social media site. Fans usually make fan accounts for their idols and aspire to meet them someday, supporting them until they lose interest or the person is no longer famous. Other times people in a fandom may support their idols by seeing them in concert.
One of the first fandoms was the Beatlemaniacs, fans of famous band The Beatles.
