Aid, treaties, and alliances are all different. Aid is where you will give a country support with food, helmets, guns, etc. A treaty is a signed document saying there will be peace between your countries for the duration the document states. An alliance is an agreement between to countries to go to war with each other if one is attacked or declares war on another country.The USA was not part of the treaties and alliances that the European powers had until 1917. They did not want to get involved with the war, because it was not near them which made it someone else's problem.
One of the things that surprised me was that the rules to get into the United States were so relaxed. All you had to do was fill out some paperwork and pass a medical exam.
