This picture "illustrates" my cause which is alliances. You can tell that's what it means because (if you look close enough) the people have country names on their clothes. Also if you look at the speech bubbles you can tell that all the countries that are in alliances because they are sticking up for one another. That's why this picture ''illustrates'' my cause.
Ruqqaiya and I are doing Carnies as our subculture. We picked this subculture because it seemed interesting and reminded us of the show American Horror Story: Freak Show. Carny is a slang term for a carnival employee in North America. The first ever carnival was in Rome during 1650, the day before the Catholic tradition of Lent. One of the most famous Carnies was Jane Barnell. You might know her as the woman with a beard. She was a part of the famous Ringling Circus. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is a modern day circus that performs around the world and is advertised on TV.My Djedo (Grandpa in Croatian) went through Ellis Island. His journey started in his homeland Croatia at age 15 . He had to escape with his brother and three sisters from Croatia to Slovenian. They finally got to the border. But they forgot about the country's soldiers guarded the border at all times because of the Nazis (during WWII). Two of the three of my Djedo's sisters got caught when trying to cross the border. Since the were young, there wasn't any serious consequences, but they did get sent back to Croatia. My Djedo, his brother, and his last sister got sponsors and went on a boat to Ellis Island. The boat went through the Mediterranean Sea, the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, and finally the Hudson Bay. After a long boat ride, they made it to America. My Djedo said he doesn't remember much. He said it was night when he came to America and he couldn't really see anything, but he saw the Statue of Liberty clearly. He remembers staying at Ellis Island for a few weeks and there was long hours of just sitting. If he wasn't bored out of his mind, he was being picked and poked at by doctors. After those long weeks, they left Ellis Island. After leaving Ellis Island they took a train to Chicago, to meet their cousins.
My Djedo's journey to America affected my story because, if my Djedo never met my Buscia (Grandma in Polish), then I wouldn't exist. My story started with my Djedo coming to America, it was in the process of being created. Civics is active participation within societies, schools, neighborhoods, classrooms, groups, and/or organizations. I go to Jefferson Junior High, which affects what friends I have and the education I get/got. I always go to feed my starving children every year, it's an organization, it affects my view point on third world countries. Also my neighborhood doesn't have a lot of kids on my block, some are down the street, so I never really had a childhood until I got to school. I also do a lot of clubs at school, I participate in a lot of this. Civics have really played a big role in my life.

History is acquiring knowledge about significant events and individual developments over time; investigations about the past and it's legacy. History has impacted my life in many ways. In my family's history a lot of my family came from Poland, on both sides of my family. Every Christmas we have Golabki (cabbage filled with meat and has a tomato sauce on top) and for dessert is Makowiec (a dough roll with poppy seed paste inside). Also for Easter, we have Pierogi (almost like a pot sticker but with different fillings like potato, which is my favorite, mushroom, or sauerkraut), sauerkraut (cabbage with a sour mixture), and for dessert we have Paczeki (almost like a doughnut but with no hole in the middle and has jelly in the middle). My polish heritage in my history has effected what my family does on holidays. But my history with my heritage has also effected what I celebrate. We celebrate Christmas because my family is christian, but we also celebrate St.Nick's day. St.Nick's day is on December 6th and it's a European holiday. The holiday is celebrated in Europe by putting shoes outside there door the night before and on Dec. 6 the shoes are filled with toys and candy. But we have modified the holiday to where we hang stockings instead of putting our shoes outside. Being polish and knowing that my family, in history, have done many of these traditions are very important. Also it has played a big role in my life.
So I'm testing how to use a blog, it's going good so far .... I guess.
