History is acquiring knowledge about significant events and individual developments over time; investigations about the past and it's legacy. History has impacted my life in many ways. In my family's history a lot of my family came from Poland, on both sides of my family. Every Christmas we have Golabki (cabbage filled with meat and has a tomato sauce on top) and for dessert is Makowiec (a dough roll with poppy seed paste inside). Also for Easter, we have Pierogi (almost like a pot sticker but with different fillings like potato, which is my favorite, mushroom, or sauerkraut), sauerkraut (cabbage with a sour mixture), and for dessert we have Paczeki (almost like a doughnut but with no hole in the middle and has jelly in the middle). My polish heritage in my history has effected what my family does on holidays. But my history with my heritage has also effected what I celebrate. We celebrate Christmas because my family is christian, but we also celebrate St.Nick's day. St.Nick's day is on December 6th and it's a European holiday. The holiday is celebrated in Europe by putting shoes outside there door the night before and on Dec. 6 the shoes are filled with toys and candy. But we have modified the holiday to where we hang stockings instead of putting our shoes outside. Being polish and knowing that my family, in history, have done many of these traditions are very important. Also it has played a big role in my life.
