My MAIN cause was militarism. I think this picture shows militarism in many ways. First it says "Fighting with poison gas and liquid fire" that shows how they are trying to fight with powerful weapons to have a strong army that is ready to fight. Also the picture can say a lot. It shows a man with a powerful looking weapon and a helmet. It shows that they are ready to fight. This picture shows that they are tying to make their army better to be ready to fight and that is what militarism means.
The difference between aid, a treaty, and an alliance is that they have different meanings even though they were all used in WW1. Aid means that you help or assist. So if you have aid with a country you help them. Being an alliance with a country means that if someone does something to them you will go after whoever did something to them. It can be compared like your friends or family. A treaty is almost like an alliance but it's still different. A treaty is an agreement between countries. It is like attempting to become allies or attempt to stop war.
The U.S isn't part of the diagram because they got involved until 1917. So yes eventually they go involved. The reason for getting involved is that president Woodrow Wilson and congress declared war on Germany. Later they declared war on Germany ally Austria-Hungary. And that's how the U.S got involved in WW1. Our subculture is the Amish. Amish means the members of a strict Mennonite. Amish people can't use any technology because they believe electricity is considered "Worldly" and connects the Amish to the outside world so most forbid it. Also Amish people are Christians. Amish believe that each person should decide to be baptized by his or her own so they get baptized as adults. Amish began in the 16th century. It was founded by Jacob Amman. In the beginning Amish mostly lived in Switzerland but today most Amish people live in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. Today modern day they have felt pressures with modern world since they can't use technology. Some Amish communities allow a house phone for all to use but that's about it. Jacob Amman was born in the year 1644 and died the year 1730. Another thing Amish don't do is high school, they only go up to the 8th grade. Imagine being Amish in this modern world today filled with technology and a bunch of other stuff. We chose Amish because we wanted to learn more about how they don't do certain stuff we used to every day.
While doing the Immigrant data activity in class what surprised me the most was that most immigrants that came through Ellis Island were from Europe but the that changed after a while. Now immigrants were mostly from South and North America. What surprised me about Angel Island is that mostly Chinese people were coming through Angel Island. I wanted to learn about how many immigrants came per day through Ellis Island. In www.history.com I learned that about 7,000 immigrants came per day through Ellis Island. I also wanted to learn how many Chinese people came through Angel Island. In www.History.com I found that about one million Chinese immigrants came from 1910 and 1940. I really enjoyed learning about this because I didn't even know that Angel Island existed and I only knew a few facts about Ellis Island. I feel that this helped me understand everything better.
Geography means Earth's physical features and human features including locations of places and regions and political boundaries. I think this lense plays a big role in my life because i've traveled and lived in a lot of places. I was born in Melrose Park i here in IL. After that I moved to Jalisco Mexico. I lived there for about 7 years and then I came back to Illinois. I lived in a house in Darien for about 2 years. Then I moved to Woodridge. This impacted me because I had to learn English and go to school here. It was so different from school in Mexico. In Mexico I went to an all girls school. Now I still live in Woodridge so that hasn't changed. Of course I go to visit Mexico every once in a while. I go on airplane but one time I went driving. I drove from Mexico to here. It was the worst! The only thing I liked about driving was that we passed so many states along the way. The one I remember the most is Texas. We stayed in a Motel there. This lense has shaped me the way I am today because I love to travel to Mexico and I love visiting different places.
Did you raise me differently than you were raised? yes, My parents gave me more freedom.
Who was the first in the family to come to the US? All my grandmas siblings. She has 10 siblings so they all decided to come here together. Me and my family followed their steps and came here too after we lived in Mexico for about 7 years. How did you choose my name? My grandma worked with this lady and that ladies daughter name was Alexa and my grandma loved that name so she told my mom to name me that. How is Mexico different from the US? In Mexico you basically go everywhere on foot. You can go grocery shopping on foot too. Here we use cars a lot. Why did you move to Mexico after graduating high school? My mom moved to Mexico after she graduated high school here in the US because my grandma went and my mom went with her. There she met my dad. Family economics? My grandpa on my moms side was poor as a kid, but with his hard work he got to where he is today. My grandma on my moms side was middle class and still is. My grandparents on my dads side have always been high class. They have a big house and own some properties. Civics is one of the lenses that we are learning about in social studies. Civics means active participation within societies, schools, neighborhoods, classrooms, groups, and organizations. Civics is a part of every ones life. In my life civics plays a role by me playing soccer, going to re and being religious, and doing service projects in the community. I started playing soccer since I was 11. I never participated in anything so my mom signed me up for soccer and since then soccer is more than a sport to me. I've played soccer since then. Also I tried out for my schools soccer team and I didn't make it but i'm going to keep trying. My family is religious we go to church every sunday and me and my sister have gone to re since we were little. Re is church school that we go to at least once a week. Well you might be wondering how that has shaped who I am today, it shaped me and who I am because me going to re and being religious led me to start doing service projects for my community. To get confirmed I have to do 5 services for my community. So i have to do something without getting payed. I've done some of those and I really like doing them. I am getting confirmed in the summer and I still have to do more services but after I get confirmed I think that i'm going to keep doing them because I like to do them and it helps people. That's how the civics lense plays a role in my life. Welcome to my 7th period social studies blog! I hope using weebly is fun! (:
