An aid means that two countries are on good terms and may help each other a little bit with some extra supplies. A treaty means that the two countries have a peace agreement and are more supportive than an aid. An alliance is when two countries will fight in each others wars and work together because their very close.
The U.S hadn't joined the war at that point yet. The U.S does join the war on April 6, 1917 because they became alliances with Russia, Britain, and France. My ancestors Thomas Spillane and his sister Elizabeth came from Tipperary Ireland on a ship named Baltic to Ellis Island on November 15, 1906. They were very young and very scared, but they knew if they made it to America they would have a better life and more freedom. The boat was jammed, bumpy, and the ride was really long. Both of them had a tough time coming to America. Once they reached Ellis Island they were examined carefully, but finally were able to pass through. Both of them settled in New York for a while. Then, Thomas moved to Iowa for work on the railroad. He met a woman named Nellie O'Neil, which he later married. Eventually, they moved to Chicago, Illinois. This has impacted my life because my parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents, wouldn't have met each other if Thomas didn't move to Illinois, and I might have never been born. Also, Thomas moving to America made his life better and all the generations to come better, including me. I live in the mid west because of where my ancestors settled. This goes with the lens history because it is talking about my past and what my ancestors did. This goes with geography because my ancestors are moving to different areas and continents. This goes with economics because my ancestors moved to get better paying jobs.
Economics- How people choose to use resources and the ways in which government, businesses, societies, and individuals distribute and consume human capital, physical capital, and natural resources.
My family has always been middle class. My parents were both the first generation to graduate college. My mom and dad came from hardworking families. This causes me to work hard in everything I do, including grades. My mom is currently a second grade teacher and my dad is a Database administrator(computers). I live in a single family home with two floors and a basement. My parents each own their own car. They make enough money were I can play on a travel soccer team, and become the best player that I can be. I also, live in a safe neighborhood and go to well educated schools. I'm privileged enough, where I have money to do extra things and will be able to afford to go to college. Recently, I did a fundraiser to go to DC. It feels good to make my own money and be able to go on this trip, instead of just taking an easy way out. How did our family come to America? Thomas Spillane came from Ireland in 1800’s. He met a woman from Iowa and eventually they moved to Chicago. They had a son Richard Spillane who was raised by priests in an orphanage because Thomas died and there was no money. Richard was in the printing business and worked in Chicago (picture in email). Richard had a son Richard Jr which is my great great grandfather. He was in World War 2 and was a Chicago Firefighter. He was at the Our Lady of Angel’s fire. Richard and Virginia had two children one of which is my mom’s grandmother. This is how we ended up in America. On my dad’s side of the family, his paternal grandparents and uncles moved here from Lithuania.
Why did you name me what you did and how did you feel when I was born? I was named Rebecca because my mom and dad liked the name. Ann was chosen for my middle name because it was both of my Grandmother’s middle names. When I was born, my parents were so happy and excited to have another little girl. I cried so loud in the nursery that I got the other babies crying too. The nurses asked for me to stay in the room instead. As soon as my mom held me, I would stop crying. My mom said I was the sweetest baby and that I was so beautiful. Where any family members in the war? My great great Grandfather Richard Spillane was in World War 2 and my grandfather Raymond Madison was in Vietnam War. Family heritage? From my dad’s side I’m half Lithuanian. One particular food that the family still makes and enjoys today is Kugeli. (Potatoes, cheese, bacon, onion) My dad’s moms side is from Germany, Hungary; Austrian, Swedish. My great, great, great grandma died in a concentration camp. My mom’s mother’s side is from Ireland. And my mom’s dad’s side is from Denmark, Germany and Native American South Dakota Oglala Sioux. Did anyone in my family go to college and where did my parents meet? My mom and Dad are the first generation to go to college. They also met in college. What hospital was I born in? I was born in the Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village. Did everyone in our family keep our religion? Yes all our family is Catholic and still practice that faith today. Was it difficult to have me around when I was little? My mom said that I was always been easy to be around. She also said that I was the peace keeper and was always sweet to everyone around her. Was their racism when mom was growing up? Yes, my mom grew up in Oak Lawn and everyone was white. She didn’t go to school with people from other ethnicity. Her grandparents and parents were racist and believed that if black people moved into her neighborhood that house values would go down. My mom love that we live in a diverse area and that this generation is learning to judge people for individuals and not by the color of their skin. What is our economic history? My mom and dad grew up with not much money with very hard working parents. We now have more money than we grew up with and able to join sports and other activities. They still work hard for their money and usually don’t have any extra money but we are able to enjoy many things in life such as movies, going out to dinner and some travel. Geography- Earth's physical features and human features including locations of places and regions, and political boundaries.
My geography has played a role in who I am today. My ancestors moved from Ireland to Iowa. My great, great, great grandfather met a woman and moved to Illinois. My other ancestors moved from Lithuania to Illinois. My family has lived there ever since. I was born in Elk Grove, IL. I have lived in Woodridge and I have gone to the same school district my whole life. Because of this, I get home sick if I'm away a long time. I'm also very shy when meeting new people. If my ancestors didn't move to Illinois or even America my friends and living style would be very different. My culture and belief could have been different based on where I lived. Maybe I would've never been born if my ancestors didn't meet. My grandparents, my parents, and I are all Catholic. My neighborhood is full of diverse cultures, so this makes me aware and excepting of other people. I am going to be blogging for my Social Studies class.
