My ancestors Thomas Spillane and his sister Elizabeth came from Tipperary Ireland on a ship named Baltic to Ellis Island on November 15, 1906. They were very young and very scared, but they knew if they made it to America they would have a better life and more freedom. The boat was jammed, bumpy, and the ride was really long. Both of them had a tough time coming to America. Once they reached Ellis Island they were examined carefully, but finally were able to pass through. Both of them settled in New York for a while. Then, Thomas moved to Iowa for work on the railroad. He met a woman named Nellie O'Neil, which he later married. Eventually, they moved to Chicago, Illinois. This has impacted my life because my parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents, wouldn't have met each other if Thomas didn't move to Illinois, and I might have never been born. Also, Thomas moving to America made his life better and all the generations to come better, including me. I live in the mid west because of where my ancestors settled. This goes with the lens history because it is talking about my past and what my ancestors did. This goes with geography because my ancestors are moving to different areas and continents. This goes with economics because my ancestors moved to get better paying jobs.
