I chose this picture because it shows nationalism. It shows Britain's flag inside the heart. It shows that they love their country and it shown a lot of patriotism by showing that they will always be supporting.
An aid is when you get help from other countries that supply you with food, medicine, etc.
A treaty is a formally written out agreement between to countries, that says that they will help each other when they are in danger. An alliance is when two countries work together. When one is getting attacked the other will step in and help. The United States isn't in the diagram because they wanted to remain neutral. The United States does end up joining the war at some point. Cosplay is the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime.
We chose Cosplay because we don't know a lot about it. Also because more people are more interested in manga and anime. Cosplay is mostly associated with Japanese and Chinese people. They dress up like characters from anime and manga by putting on costumes. A historical example of how Cosplay started is, "At the First World Science Fiction Convention in New York in 1939, a 22 year old Forrest J. Ackerman and his friend Myrtle R. Jones appeared in the first SF costumes among the 185 attendees." A more modern day example is the amount of kids and teens that like to read, draw, and play anime and manga. A lot of kids dress up like their favorite characters from anime and manga. Cosplay has gotten bigger and more popular over the years. Now a lot of kids and teens also dress up like Cosplay for Halloween or other occasions. Some famous Cosplay names are Forrest J. Ackerman, Myrtle R. Jones, Marie Claude Bourbonnais, etc. - By Hitika Shah and Corinne Viray What really surprised me after learning about Ellis Island is that they had to check everyone's eye for a certain eye disease. But how they did that, was even more surprising. They did that by pulling the persons eyelid upwards and then checking the eye. I really wanted to more about the medical procedures people had to go through to enter America. I found out that doctors would pay close attention to the immigrants as they climbed the stairs to the second floor. The doctors looked for signs of weakness, heavy breathing, and other signs of mental disturbances. Then when the immigrants reached to the top, the doctors examined their hair, neck, face, and hands. When the doctor noticed something wrong, they would mark the immigrants shirt with a letter. After that was the dreaded eye doctor. The civics lens definition is: Active participation within societies, schools, neighborhoods, classrooms, groups, and/or organizations.
Key words include: voting, politics, government, society, choices, expressing views on issues, action, ideals, citizenship, liberty, and participation (on jury). Civics play a big role in my life, which is why there are many examples of it in my life. One example is my participation in student council. Student council gives me an opportunity to help my school and my community. It really gives me an opportunity to meet and interact with new people. Also it gives you a chance to help the community while having fun. Student Council also organizes a lot of the school dances and activities. This has really shaped me to become more responsible and has made me a leader. We also have to help out at the dances, and take turns running the concession stands. Also organizing fundraisers to earn money for needy children has helped me be more respectful of the things I have. Now I know that I am very lucky to have what I have. Some children don't, which is why I feel that raising money for those needy kids, has really taught me to help out anyone who needs it. Also I am in NJHS which is the National Junior Honors Society. This club is ALL about community work. Also it teaches you how to be a leader. You have to find a place where you can help out, like the library or Feed My Starving Children. You can also help out at your school or elementary schools. This club has made me an active participant in the community. All of these clubs have helped me give back to my community. After all this community has done for me, this a way I can say thank you. Some of the questions I am going to ask my family over Thanksgiving break to learn more about my personal identity are:
What is our origin?- Our origin is India. Even if some of our family was still born in the USA, our ancestors trace back to India. How did we end up in Illinois?- A lot of our family was already here, so we decided to settle down in Illinois. What are the things you value most about our culture?- We value our religion, family relationships, values, and culture. My grandparents could have moved anywhere...why did they choose here?- My grandparents got an admission to a college in Illinois, so then the whole family just settled here. Did everyone in our family keep our religion, traditions, and values?- Mostly everyone in our family has kept our traditions. Some family members have not kept our religion, traditions, and values 100%. Did I get my talents from my dad's side or my mom's side?- I got my talents from both sides of the family. How has migrating to the US affected your traditions and lifestyle over the years?- Migrating to the US has changed a lot of traditions and things we did daily in India. We had to adapt to a lot of changes. The lens I am going to talk about is History. The history lens's definition is, "acquiring knowledge about significant events and individual developments over time; investigations about the past and it legacy." Some key words that usually go with this lens is, "cause and effect, examples of change, traditions, and time."
I have a lot of history in my life. One example is how dancing has changed me to become who I am now. I did a type of traditional Indian dancing called, "Bharatanatyam." It was a lot of hard work and took a lot of energy. And we had dance class every Saturday for sometimes even more than 2-3 hours non-stop. But it all paid off. Dancing has changed me to be more confident in front of big crowds of people, that I don't even know. That's how we had to perform, which made me powerful and made me more confident in myself. I am now more confident and can dance whether there are 10 people to 1000 people. Bharatanatyam has changed me to someone who I always wanted to be. Also in dance classes I met my best friend Anita. We have been best friends ever since second grade. Even though we didn't/don't go to the same school, we used to meet her every weekend. She has changed me a lot. Because of her I am more open and free. I can tell her anything without worrying that she will judge me. She is one of my best friends that I will never forget. |
