The civics lens definition is: Active participation within societies, schools, neighborhoods, classrooms, groups, and/or organizations.
Key words include: voting, politics, government, society, choices, expressing views on issues, action, ideals, citizenship, liberty, and participation (on jury).
Civics play a big role in my life, which is why there are many examples of it in my life. One example is my participation in student council. Student council gives me an opportunity to help my school and my community. It really gives me an opportunity to meet and interact with new people. Also it gives you a chance to help the community while having fun.
Student Council also organizes a lot of the school dances and activities. This has really shaped me to become more responsible and has made me a leader. We also have to help out at the dances, and take turns running the concession stands. Also organizing fundraisers to earn money for needy children has helped me be more respectful of the things I have. Now I know that I am very lucky to have what I have. Some children don't, which is why I feel that raising money for those needy kids, has really taught me to help out anyone who needs it.
Also I am in NJHS which is the National Junior Honors Society. This club is ALL about community work. Also it teaches you how to be a leader. You have to find a place where you can help out, like the library or Feed My Starving Children. You can also help out at your school or elementary schools. This club has made me an active participant in the community.
All of these clubs have helped me give back to my community. After all this community has done for me, this a way I can say thank you.
