One of the things that surprised me was that the rules to get into the United States were so relaxed. All you had to do was fill out some paperwork and pass a medical exam. One thing I want to learn is how many people were sent back to the country they came from. According to http://www.nyharborparks.org/visit/elis.html

Geography has had a huge role on my life. When I was born I lived at my grandmas house in Berwyn. After living in my grandmas house for a good while we moved out to Woodridge. The reason we moved here is because we already had family living in the area. Before I was born my dad interviewed with a couple different police departments. One of the places he could have possibly worked was Buffalo Grove. To my luck Oak Park was the first town to call and say he got the job. If any other town called first he would have moved there and never have met my mom.
Another big part to this was my mom went to Lewis University and got her nursing degree. After she got her degree she came back to Berwyn and got a job at Rush Oak Park hospital. This was one of the hospitals that was close to where she lived at the time, so she had gotten an interview there. It took all of these moments that weren't really given thought about for me to be born. If my dad didn't want to become a cop, or my mom didn't want to be a nurse I wouldn't be here. How did you meet? They met at the Rush Oak Park hospital.
