Civics is one thing that heavily impacts my life. I'm involved in many activities in and out of school.
One thing that is a very big part of my life right now is student council. In sixth grade student council sparked my interest and I ran for the position of Secretary, and won. I didn't really have any idea what student council was or what I had to do, so I was shocked when I won. That year I discovered that being in student council was mostly about being a leader, which I found out I was surprisingly good at. In seventh grade I continued student council as a representative. Student council in Jefferson took up a lot more time in my life, especially when I decided to run for President at the end of the year, and to my surprise, won! Right now being the President is definitely a big responsibility and a lot harder than it looks. It takes up most of my time but I enjoy it a lot.
Another thing I'm involved in is NJHS. I started it last year to try something new and started going to Feed My Starving Children on a regular basis for my community service hours. Even after NJHS I continued to volunteer at FMSC and other organizations when available. Volunteering is something I actually enjoy doing and even though I didn't win a position as an NJHS officer this year I'm ready and excited to participate in the club this year.
