What surprised me when i learnt about the Ellis island and angel island was that they had to do all these checkouts and if they weren't qualified they were sent back to where they came from.So if the parents were qualified there children had to go back. All people could do was pray and hope that none of their family members were sent back.According to "America the story Of Us", A man said "if they ask you to let them look at your eye don't because they will poke it with a stick " .And I wanted to know more about what happens to the little kids left behind because of not being qualified. According to NPR.org it states that "more than 300,000 people from 80 countries passed through the small immigration station".This was because angel island was in California and known as the Ellis island in the west.I learnt that some people weren't treated well on angel and Ellis island because of some stereotypes for example the Chinese for always wanting to be clean.According to KQED it states that from 11 percent to 30 percent were deported but in the east coast only 1 to 2 percent were deported.Leaving us to think of how far we have com from our ancestors in the immigration time.
