Throughout the duration of the immigration activity during class I've learned a few new things about the immigration stations Ellis and Angel Island, but I still wonder a few things... I wonder if a doctor has ever made a mistake and forgot to mark someone of a sickness or just got lazy and didn't fully examine. Or if there were ever friction between the immigrants waiting to be tested??
One thing that I found intriguing about the two stations was that the doctors would use special chalk markings on the immigrants to make aware a sickness or pregnancy.
Another thing that I found out about these gateways to America was that some families would actually be separated. The process of becoming an american citizen was not an easy one and the buildings were very crowed with eager soon to be citizens of the US- making it easy to misplace a loved one. As crazy and scary as it may sound. It has happened.
