Something that surprised me the most when doing the immigrating data collection in class was that in the years of 1820 through 1969 most people immigrated from Europe but that changed in the years of 1970 and 2010 most people came from North and South America (scholastic.com). What surprised me about Angel Island was that most Chinese people came through Angle Island. Something that I still what to learn about is about how many people passed through Ellis Island. In www.History.com I learned that about 80 percent passed through in about hours, but some had to stay for days or weeks if they were sick till they got better. What I wanted to know more about Angel Island was, what year did the first Chinese arrive. In www.angelisland.org I found out that the first Chinese person that entered California was in 1848, and after that person arrived within a few years, thousands of more came. I loved learning about this topic because it helped me learn more about Ellis Island and about Angel Island that I didn't even now about it. I feel that with doing that activity it helped me understand more and better.
Economics is how people choose to use resources and the ways in which government, businesses, societies, and individuals distribute and consume human capital, physical capital, and natural resources. Economics played a big role in my life because both of my parents are born in Mexico also my two sisters and I were born in Mexico but then we came to the United States to live. My dad struggled in his childhood, their family had very little money, he was part of 7 siblings. My dads parents had a field where they would grow corn and then my dad and his siblings would take a little portion of it and sell it to people that had stores. That's how he earned some money to have with him. My mom on the other hand didn't really struggle she is part of 12 siblings, my moms parents had a store that they sold different thing like chips, candy, bread and many more things. Everyday they would have money to take to school to buy what they wanted during recess. My mom would share what she would buy with some of the people that didn't have money to buy things and my mom and her siblings didn't have to work to earn money. Both of my parents had a good education even though they had different life styles. This has shaped me by sharing my stuff with other people because I know that some people might not have the same things as me and everyone is different when it comes to economics. If we still lived in Mexico we wouldn't have a lot of the same opportunities that we have know for example we wouldn't have the same education from here. I wouldn't value money the same way if we still lived in Mexico I would probably value money more. This has taught me to value things more because you might not have what you want or some people might be in need of what you don't appreciate. This has also shaped my personality and my point of view. Economics have played a big role in my life.
