In this blog post, I'm going to talk about my mom's side of the family, the Mexican side. But first my heritage is half Irish and half Mexican. How it all started was my great grandma and Lito came here by car from Mexico. They were a lower middle class family, nothing too extreme. My family speaks English and Spanish, just not around the house because my mom never taught me. I was born at Hinsddale hospital in Illinois. The reason I was named Jackilyn was because my dad just went online and searched up Irish names, he liked Jackilyn the most. My life is pretty boring, sorry. Anyways, I have/had a few family members in the armed forces such as Lisa Soto, Lupe Alvarado, Apples Lara, Rachel Lara, Teddy Turan, Renee Lara (Vietnam), Beto Lara (Vietnam), and my brother Matthew Russo. That's about it.
Civics is about participation within societies, schools, neighborhoods, classrooms, groups, and organization. Civics has impacted my life in many ways. I'm currently in Student Council and Choir. Student Council has affected me emotionally and in so many other ways. In Student Council last year, we wrapped toys for children who's parents didn't have money. Which was a really sweet thing to do. I feel so happy knowing that I actually did something nice for someone and that they actually appreciate it. Aside from making other people happy, Student Council also made me happy and shaped me into a better person, the person that I am today. I have made a few friends along the way which is great because in 7th grade, i was terrible at making friends. Now, I have a handful of friends and I'm a bit more outgoing.
