I believe that this picture best illustrates Militarism, One of the main causes of WWI. The definition of Militarism is - A government or people's desires or belief that their country's military should maintain a strong military capability and should be prepared and always ready to use it aggressively should they have to defend or promote. This photo clearly shows militarism. One way this photo shows militarism is the fact that the magazine cover is showing a soldier that is very well equipped. He has a poison tank which could be useful in a battle. A mask, which can protect him from the poison tank, and contain his identity. He also has a gun. This magazine is showing a model soldier, and what one should look like. This is why I believe this picture represents militarism.
Part 1 -
What is the difference between aid, a treaty, and an alliance? ( an aid, treaty, and alliance all have to do with forming a bond with another country during war. The bond with an aid is just supply of materials, the bond with a treaty is an agreement not to go into battle unless needed, and the bond with the alliance is helping one another out during a battle.) AID: When a country has an aid relationship with another country, the countries will provide help, support, or assistance in economic or non-economic problems in war. For example if a country needs supplies such as food, water, or bandages their aid country would supply them with the materials if they had them. TREATY: When a country has a treaty with another country they have declared peace with one another. For example if two or more countries have a treaty. They will not battle each other unless needed. ALLIANCE: When a country has an alliance with one another, they have a formal agreement that they will help each other out in battle against other countries. For example if a country wants to battle an allied country, the allied country with have its alliance help their country in the battle. Part 2 - Why isn't the U.S. part of this diagram? Does the U.S. Become part of this diagram at some point? When? Why do they join? If you don't know already, WWI began July 28th, 1914. Alliances, treaties, and aids were immediately formed. Although, The U.S didn't join the war until April 6th, 1917. Therefore the U.S. Most likely wasn't even apart of the war when this diagram was made. The U.S. Does become apart of the diagram at some point since when the U.S. joined the war they formed an alliance with Britain, France, And Russia. The U.S Joined WWI because of mainly disagreements in Europe over boundaries and other issues. |
