Ellis Island
----------
-It's open from 9:00am- 4:00pm
-In 1892-1954 Ellis Island was America's largest and biggest immigration station
-Inspection took 3-7 hours
-Also Known As "A.K.A" "Island of Hope" and 'Island of Tears"
- About 484,000 people came through in 1910
- About 40% of current U.S. citizens can trace back to one ancestor who came through Ellis Island
- Welcomed kindly
Angel Island
---------------
- It's located in San Francisco, California
- Became part of the Untied States in 1850
- Operated from 1910-1940
- Called "Ellis Island of the West"
- Not welcomed into America and allowed in grudgingly
- Construction began in 1905
- Could handle 2,500 immigrants each day
- The longest someone was detained there for was 22 months
That's some of the things I have learned about both of these islands.
Until next time my friends,
Bye!
