My grandpa on my moms side came from Lithuania through Ellis Island. He was only three years old at the time. He said that it took a long time to get to America on the boat. He also recalls a lot of people on the boat getting sick. He was from Lithuanian and he left because there was a war and they wanted a better life. When they first arrived in America they lived on a farm where my great grand mother cleaned the house and my great grandfather did farm work in exchange for room and board. Since day one my grandfather came from a poor family that worked hard for a better life. When they came over they had very little money and could only speak Lithuanian. They had to learn how to speak English. This work ethic was instilled in me that as long as I work hard I can become anything I want. I also learned from their struggles to appreciate the things that I am fortunate have.
